I would like to comment on Larry Stunkel's futile
attempt to reevaluate the State High School
Basketball Tournament.
In Louisville's first tournament game, they were
challenged by Wood River. In my opinion, Louisville
played one of iheir worst games of the season. But
they showed their championship qualities and won
over Wood River, 4140. Louisville proved their
power when they took leads of 15 points, and 19
points on Friend and Grant, respectively. Though
both Friend and Grang managed to close the gap,
Louisville refused to give in to these attempts. Thus
they proved that they are rightfully the Gass C
champions.

After reading Ron Wylie's article of March 14
("Middle of the Road' KRNU Frustrating to DJ"), we
would like to attempt to present a more complete
view. To understand the station's programming
policy, we must examine KRNLTs primary
purpose to educate the student in the broadcasting
program. A broadcaster may eventually find himself
employed at any sort of station, from a "big rocker"
to classical, and the exposure to diverse types of
music might prove invaluable.
The frequently scheduled public service
announcements which Wylie mentioned also serve a
very important educational function, because they
simulate the advertisements he would encounter in a
commercial station. The student must read some live
and play some from pre-recorded tape cartridges. He
mentioned that the PSA subject range seemed to
exclude such organizations as the Peace Action
Coalition, but we need to point out that KRNU can
only use PSA material that is made available. (If we
don't have it, we can't play it!) It should also be
noted that we use materials sent to us by Amnesty
International.
KRNU offers many programs exclusive to the
Lincoln area, taken from four nationwide networks
and broadcasting students. Freshman as well as
varsity football and basketball games and NU baseball
contests are aired.
We recognize that the station is not meant to be
like any other station, but that it does serve
educational, entertainment and informative purposes.
