Housing group to hear
visitation policy views
Students and faculty and staff members may express their views
about residence hall visitation policies at a Housing Policy
Committee (HPC) public hearing Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in
the Nebraska Union.
HPC, a subcommittee of the Council on Student Life (CSL), is a
policy-making body whose members include faculty and staff
members and students.
Any aspect of visitation or other housing policies may be
discussed at the hearing, said Wendy Reitmeier, chairwoman of the
committee. Two suggestions under consideration are increasing
visitation hours and allowing residence hall floor members to
change their hours during the year.
Several members of the committee are researching the effects of
changes on residence halls, Greek houses and cooperatives.
It's too late to make any major changes for next year, but some
minor changes might be possible, Reitmeier said.
HPC may establish a task force later this year to study visitation
and general housing policies in depth.
Reitmeier said Ken Bader, vice chancellor for student affairs,
requested HPC to study and make a recommendation on current
policies after NU Regent Ron Clingenpeel presented Residence Hall
Association (RHA) proposals to the NU Board of Regents at its last
meeting.
After HPC reaches a decision the policy must be approved by
CSL and the administration before it will be presented to the
regents, Reitmeier said.
