Cheng said the program will permit UNL students to receive resident credit while studying in Japan. As a part of the Study-In-Japan Program, a continuing annual grant from the U.S. Kawasaki Motors Corp. will pay the travel expenses of at least three UNL students studying at Nanzan University, he said. The university has colleges of arts, business, technology and a separate international section which conducts advising for foreign students. Nagoya is a large industrial city in central Japan. Cheng said it offers students a unique set of contacts with Japan and its people, and is also an access to the resources of both rural Japan and the metropolitan areas of Toyko and Kyotal. He said students in the Nanzan University Japan Studies Program can enroll in English taught courses on Japanese art, culture, society, history, politics, economics, business, and language. Students can also take supervised independent study, Cheng said. Any undergraduate student in any UNL college is eligible to take part in the Study in Japan Program and can now apply for travel expense support, he said. 2,504 total cost A round trip flight though the travel fair is paid, students must pay all other expenses. He said the costs of one year of study at Nanzan University are tuition, $1,065; fees, $207; and room and board, $1,232. Cheng said the total expense figure of $2,504 does not include other travel or miscellaneous expenses. He said students may be able to arrange for cheaper accomodations. Cheng said the recipients of the travel grants will be selected by a faculty committee. Deadline for application for the grants is April 2.
