yw"- .-.V ' i Photo lacking entries The UNL Alumni Yearbook photography1 contest will end Saturday, but "there are not nearly enough entries," according to Judith Sadler, head of the Alumni Board Publication Committee. Sadler said many photographers have shown interest in the contest, which asks for scenic shots of the UNL campus, but they are reluctant to give up their negatives, which must become the property of the Alumni Board. George Tuck, head of the photography department at the UNL School of Journalism, said few photographers are willing to give up what could be a contest-winning negative. "!f the negative is a good one, he will probably want it for future printing or for his own collection," Tuck said. "Even professional photographers would be reluctant to enter negatives in a contest where they would not get them back. "This policy is not fair to the photographer," Tuck said. Sadler said the problem is that the negative must be sent to a New York publishing company, which probably wouldn't insure the negatives on their trip back to Lincoln. "It's really a shame," she said. "Maybe next year we can get more student input." First prize for the contest is a $25 gift certificate from Max Miller Cameras. Second and third prizes are $10 and $5 in cash, respectively. Aside from the' scenic picture shortage, the yearbook is "progressing pretty well," according to Carol Reno, Yearbook Committee adviser. "It'a a little hard to get something like this started, but the response of students has been pretty good," she said. About 600 seniors have ordered the new yearbook, which replaces the Cornhusker, discontinued three years ago. v Jl ACADEMY AWARD lOMINATIOtlS : v J Support the PGj & Daily at 1:30, 3:30, 5:30, 7:30, and 9:30 PARK FREE AFTER 6 P.M. rm r i mi i i .iimii ii 1 1 mmm 1 Above alL.lts a love story. j ::.
