Committee Impressed' with The members of the Areas of Excellence Visitation Committee for life Sciences said they are "generally impressed with the progress of the school towards excellence." Hie School of Life Sciences is the fifth of six Areas of Excellence chosen by UNL Chancellor James Zumberge to be examined. A committee makes periodic visits to assess whether the school's goals will lead "toward excellence," and to recommend modification' in plans. ' Longterm improvement Gary Hergenrader, Director of the School of Life Sciences, said his department's goals include longterm improvement, a change in core curriculum, a more meaningful modern biology course, and establishing a summer field station where students would live and take field courses. Committee dismayed Hergenrader said "the committee was dismayed, but not surprised, at low faculty salaries. They were surprised that the students were concerned about loisng good faculty members because their salaries weren't high enough."
