The world's record for the longest continuous telephone call is jl Li. jf
728 hours, according to the 1974 Guiness Book of World Records. VlOnlgni; ',
UNL's Delta Gamma sorority and Sigma Nu fraternity will be i jf
trying to break that record when they begin a scheduled 744 hour, I
31 -day phone call Saturday.
Gov. J. James Exon will call from the Sigma Nu house to his Jr
wife at the Delta Gamma house at 1 p.m. to start the "talkathon," - ' ' )
according to Paul Johns, committee chairman.
Members of the two houses will work half-hour shifts through Jr '
744 hours, hoping to raise $5,000. The money will be donated to 1
the St. Elizabeth Regional Burn and Trauma Unit for the purchase i
of additional equipment, officials said. Jl
Money will come from donors who have pledged by hourly or . f
daily rates, as well as donations of specific amounts.
"Donations are welcomed " said John Veager chairman of the iwso K'iiaxmiixxm-ima,:
pledge committee, adding, "the committee is engaged in a soliciting 1 ft
campaign in the Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding areas." I 1 J 1 I
