Films considered for
UNL housing publicity
UNL housing directors are considering making films to be used
in high schools across the state for "marketing" residence halls, Joe
Zannini, UNL assistant housing director in charge of operations,
said Wednesday.
University of Minnesota representatives gave Zannini the idea at
a conference of the Upper Midwest Region and Association of
College and University Housing Officers, (UMR-ACUHO) held in
Lincoln last November.
University housing directors, officers and students from eight
states exchanged ideas on residence housing operations at the
conference, he said.
UNL housing directors now are examining the cost and
feasibility of making the films, he added.
"If they are practical, they will be made and distributed to high
school counselors throughout the state," he said.
He said this would help high school students understand
residence hall life and University housing.
Zannini said he also is considering a Management by Objectives
program, (MBO) which was introduced at the conference by a
Wisconsin school.
The MBO involves a relatively new technique of management,
he said.
"It emphasizes delegating responsibilities and measuring success,
which would result in a better organized staff and housing
management," he said.
Another idea that Zannini got from the conference, which he
said might be applicable at UNL, is the use of educational video
tapes and films.
He said the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point showed a
film on love and family relations at the conference.
The video tapes and films "are part of an excellent series" which
Nebraska might be able to use someday, he. added.
Zannini said his ideas are all in the planning stages, and he
doesn't know when they would be ready for approval.
