The term "drawing" can be used to describe varying artistic styles, ranging from the decidedly simple to the excruciatingly complex. At one end of the drawing spectrum lies a sketchy, spare surrealistic form, one that barely suggests an object or an emotion, leaving its completion and interpretation to the viewer. At the other end are the literalists artists dedicated to an exactingly detailed representation of objects and situations as they are in a concrete sense, leaving only interpretation to the viewer. Drawings are by no means limited to the medium of pencils or pens. Chalks, charcoal, crayons, water colors and airbrush are all drawing media, giving the artist a great measure of flexibility while eschewing the complications of acrylic or oil colors. The exhibit includes the work of UNL faculty members Dan Howard, Michael Nushawg, Keith Jacobshagen, Richard Trickey and Patrick Rowan as well as several UNL alumni. It is an intelligent, well thought-out presentation, with a wide variety of styles exhibited, as well as an assortment of media including airbrush and strawberry Kool-Aid.
