open arms market predicted for teachers As growing unemployment rates haunt the thoughts of many students looking forward to a May graduation, a bright note has been issued by the Teachers Placement Division of the UNL Teachers College. Lee De Jonge, director of the division, predicts a job. market waiting with open arms for the spring graduates. A better than 5 per cent increase in vacancies reported to the Placement Office in 1973-74 supports this claim. "There will continue to be a high demand for the outstanding teacher in all teaching fields," De Jonge said. While the number of vacancies increased, the number of job-seekers registered at the office remained the same as in 1972-73. De Jonge noted that the decrease in the number of teachers certified at UNL follows a national trend of decreased enrollment in teaching institutions. "It may be," commented De Jonge, "that despite an anticipated decrease in primary and secondary school enrollment, the demand for teachers in the next decade may exceed the supply, particularly in certain teaching fields."
