J Why would a town the size of Lincoln attract a relatively large number of people of Oriental descent? Kim Hlnkley, owner of the Asian House of Lincoln, said UNL is the "determining factor. Hinkley, who came to Lincoln from Seoul, Korea, 20 years ago, said he believes the majority of people from Oriental countries have come to Lincoln to study and have remained after completing their education. Hinkley estimated that at least i,200 to 1,500 Oriental persons are living in Lincoln. He said although there are more Chinese people than any other single nationality, there are considerable numbers from all Asian countries. Luh Cheng Tao, profsssor of chemical engineer ing at UNL and originally from China, came to Lincoln about 16 years ago to take a position on the UNL faculty. Tao said he had no idea how many Oriental people are living in Lincoln. Kam-Ching Leung, associate professor of physics came to Lincoln in Feb., 1970, to accept a position on the faculty. Leung, who is of Chinese descent, estimated that there are about 150 Oriental students at UNL. He said most of the Oriental people in Lincoln are students, and there are a few Orientals on the faculty and professional staff. Leung said most of the Oriental people in Lincoln are Chinese, with a small number coming from Southeast Asia, Japan and Korea. He said since most of the Oriental population consists of students, they are concentrated in the residence halls on campus, and graduate stucents or nonstudents are likely to be found in all parts of Lincoln.
