. 'Bra Day ' gets public support The girl, obviously with no visible means of support had just claimed her free pitcher of beer from a downtown bartender. Did she feel exploited? "Hell no, I'm broke," she said. But not all women accepted the Water Hole's "Ban the 'Bra' Day""so readi'l'y. According to Yuko Yates, a spokes person for the Women's Resource Center, the ads were "degrading to her self-respect and human dignity as a woman and (as a) thinking and feeling individual." A counter ad, sponsored by the Women's Resource Center is being run in today's paper. the original ad announced that the bar would award a free pitcher of beer for every bra brought in as well as to every girl "who proves to the satis faction of the bartender that she is braless." An observer Wednesday night re ported that gaining the bartender's satisfaction required the girls to jump up and down in front of the counter. Rod Goes, a bartender at the Water Hole, said seven or eight pitchers had been given out by 8:30 p.m. He said he expected business to "pick up by 9 or 9:30." Another Water Hole bartender said Thursday about 100 pitchers were claimed by closing time. Outside the bar other forces were at work. One bartender reported that by 4:30 p.m. he had answered so many telephone calls from protesters that he had to return home because of a headache. 1 JJdhm Dir!
