Landscaping
for library
A landscaping idea
used nowhere else on
campus will surround the
new Love Library addi
tion, according to Jay
Thody, UNL assistant di
rector Off giU0.biinitno
hilly effect, will be placed
on the east, west and
north sides of the library
addition when construc
tion is completed, Thody
said.
Native grasses planted
in limestone ledge rock
formations around the
berms will help prevent
erosion as well as provide
a natural look in the area,
he said.
The library grounds are
receiving special land
scaping because they are
near the center of campus
and are one of the first
things a person sees when
walking onto campus,
Thody said.
"But our primary con
sideration is pedestrian
traffic," he said. "Side
walks providing .students
with the shortest possible
distance between build
ings will be the first
completed stage of the
project." '
Approximately 50 shade
and ornamental trees will
be planted and an under
ground sprinkler system
installed this fall and
winter with remaining
shrubs and grasses to be
added next spring, Thody
said.
The project won't be
finished for another year,
however, because the
grounds crew must wait
for the contractors to
complete construction, he
dded.
