Review by Meg Greene
Dear Mick Jagger,
Who do you guys thinks you're trying to fool?
I'd like to think that I've weathered a lot of the
changes you and your people have gone through. I
grew up amongst "Flowers" and my formative
years were spent at "Beggars Banquet" where I
left with "Sticky Fingers".
College years have been one long "Exile on
Main St." with lots of "Goats Head Soup" thrown
in. But now this. "It's Only Rock and Roll." What
are you guys trying to do? Set me back in a time
warp?
"It's Only Rock and Roll." Well, that's all it is.
All right, you devil's advocate. Explain that. There
I was, so excited about a new Stones' album.
Paradise revisited. Ha. More like Paradise lost.
Your flashes of brilliance on this album are about
as plentiful as satin shoes and cocaine eyes, and
there isn't too much of that around here.
And what about the title cut? It sounds as if you
impaled yourself upon the mike. Any minute. I was
waiting for it to fall over. But no, the album moves
on. And on. ..and on.
Get the picture? But I did learn one thing. A
good definition of infinity is listening to your
album.
But I don't want to knock it entirely. It's good
background music for a party: Muzak rock and
roll.
Sincerely yours....
