UNL students Robin Davis, Debra Hulbert, Lynn Silhasek, Nancy McCleery and Susan Rae Miller gave readings of their poetry. Subjects for the poems read ranged from anger, love, fantasy, unhappiness, old age, to landfills, poems written to "ideas for poems that never developed," dacron and Pocatello, Idaho. Robin Davis read a poem she wrote about a commercial she never saw, but said she heard a lot about: "Why do I always miss Jane Russell in her thousand hour bra, visiting main street, Merna, Nebraska. The commercial with a million flaming batons, twirled by young girls with good thighs in red sequined suits and hollow heels. for health reasons. Jane Russell, packed in a dress. An ex-star stacked in a mess. The eighty-year-old profile we know and love, and flattering? You tell me." Susan Miller says she likes to write "portraits of people." The following poem, "Charlie from Alaska", is by Miller: "I'd like todraw him but I would rather tell I wasn't stupid I was just dreaming said Charles Horton III ' slight beard and overalls was going to bike cross-somewhere he's new here he's from cold hunting hills he says he likes our cool brown crumbly fall trees and flat dirt road fileds when he plays his 12-strings . he sounds like bells" WomenSpeak 75 is scheduled to begin Jan. 21 at I Soumament NU Students Eligible Nebraska Union Recreation Area Thurs.
