Sandoz to be bugged no more
By Rusty Reno.
While Sandoz Hall residents are at
home enjoying their turkey this Thanks
giving, several floors in Sandoz will be
sprayed to eliminate insects, according
to Joseph Zannini, assistant housing
director in charge of operations. A
complaint was voiced earlier this week
by eighth floor resident Susan Spohn
that she has been bothered by insects
since September.
Abel-Sandoz Hall maintenance man
ager Dick Kehler called the insects
"water bugs", but Zannini acknowl
edged that a type of roach could be
pre&e. The immediate resolution to
the problem, he said, was to use an
insect bomb during Thanl&giving vaca
tion trJkirHfcem. "
Kehler said he thinks the situation at
Sandoz is not bad, and added that the
water bugs can be found in any
residence hall. Sandoz is sprayed twice
a year, he said.
"The spray we use kills bugs, and is
effective for a great length of time," he
said.
Spohn reported that she had found
roaches in her drawers among her
clothes and in her closet. She com
plained that she had filled out several
repair slips to have the floor sprayed but
nothing was done about It.
Zannini said that a can of Insect spray
t& Qwailahlo at tho Inf nrmst ion desk in
every residence hall, but spraying Is
only a supplemental measure.
"Roaches are brought in by
humans," he commented. "Roaches
feed n carbohydrates, -and usually in'
rooms that aren't clean."
He continued that one dirty room on a
floor could breed roaches that wogld
travel to other rooms. When roaches are
found near doors, as in the case of
Spohn, he said, it usually means that
they are traveling from somewhere else.
Zannini said he does not act on a
complaint about bugs unless there is
more than one report.
