You can do it, too. So far over 550,000 other people have done it. People who
have different jobs, different IQs, different interests, different educations have
completed the course. Our graduates are people from all walks of life. These
people have all taken a course developed by Evelyn Wood, a prominent
educator. Practically all of them at least tripled their reading speed with equc.1 or
better comprehension. Most have increased it even more.
Think for a moment what that means All of them-even the slowest-now read
n average novel in less than two hours. They read an entire issue of Time or
Newsweek in 35 minutes. They don't skip or skim. They read every word. They
use no machines. Instead, they let the material they're reading determine how
fast they read. And mark this well: they actually understand more, remember
more, and enjoy more than when they read slowly. That's right! They
understand more. They remember more. They enjoy more. You can do the same

No close shave in
Chambers' contest
By Rex SeHne
He's not your typical
barber.
No, State Senator and,
of late, gubernatorial can
didate Ernest Chambers
doesn't fit the mold of
your typical barber or for
that matter your typical
state senator or guberna
torial candidate.
Ernest Chambers
doesn't fit any mold ex
cept possibly the one he
used Thursday to charac
terize himself.
"I like to think of myself
as the mythical bird, the
Phoenix, rising from the
ashes again and again,"
he said.
Distant third
In Tuesday's election,
Chambers ran a distant
third to incumbent Gov. J.
James Exon and Republi-
can challenger Richard
Marvel, garnering only

23,331 votes or 6 per cent
of the total.
"Everybody knew I was
going to lose, except me,"
Chambers said. "You
have to take a positive
attitude. There was really
no chance whatsoever for
me to win the election.
But then there's really no
reason that a bumblebee
should fly yet he does."
Chambers' campaign
.could not be termed tradi
tional, either. He ended
up spending only "slight
ly over" the $846.90 he
reported to the secretary
of state on Oct. 23. What
was his reason?
"I didn't have a lot (of
money) and I didn't solicit
' any."
What money he did
have went into travel
expenses, a batch of pam
phlets, bumper stickers
and his $250 filing fee.
Not packaged
"I didn't want to be a
packaged candidate. Ev
ery vote I got was really
for me. it wasn't bought
and it wasn't for me flying
a false flag." Chambers
said.
He added, "Some can
didates spent many thou
sands of dollars, sacrificed
their principles, formed
ties with special interest
groups and still lost. With
me they didn't vote for a
public relations product."
He termed the results of
, the., elect ions, other ,than
for governor "totally pre
dictable." "Nebraska will
not bo hurt that much by
it, nor will it be ad
vanced." He said. "The
emotion was not based on
sr. intelligent understand
ro of the issues."
As fo his own candida
cy, he views it as a
"learning experience."
Although he didn't want
to "get down on the
people of Nebraska" he
said he had "overestima
ted their perceptiveness.
"I suffered an over
whelming defeat but then
most causes I undertake
are lost causes when I take
them on," Chambers
.said.
Candidates the Issues
During the campaign,
Chambers had said the
main issue in the cam
paign was the candidates
themselves, their chara
cter and integrity.
Chambers said Exon
stated that "they (the
voters) would get four
more years of what they
had had and I guess they
got it."
Chambers will return to
the Legislature in January
to help it take a "much
greater amount of the
leadership in state affairs
than it has in the past."
He has plans to introduce
some bills that "might be
considered controversial"
but refused to release
details saying he wanted
to complete the drafting of
the bills to develop the
correct wording.
Although Chambers'
defeat was "overwhelm
ing" he said he's "never
going to dry up and blow
away. People don't yet
have a clear understand
ing of what I'm about. !
haven't died and I'm not
going to :ry."
