Tho Sheldon Film Theater's Horror Fantasy N
Series moves into the mid- 60s this weekend with
the showing of Roman Polanski's first English
language movie, "Repulsion" (1965).
The film was produced in Britain and stars
continental French actress Catherine Deneuve as a
jealous schizophrenic whose sexual obsessions
and fear of men drive her to murder and madness.
The film weaves a spell of atmosphere and
hallucination and opens with the now famous
close-up of Deneuve's eyeball.
"Repulsion" contains all the tense irony and
sexual paranoia that can be found in Polanski's
later commercial successes like "Rosemary's
Baby" and even this year's brilliant "China
town". Showings are at 3, 7 and 9 p.m. this Friday and
Saturday in Sheidon Art Gallery auditorium.

Four student chamber grops will present a free
recital at Kimball Recital Hall Friday at 8 p.m.
The works to be performed are a quartet for
piano, violin, viola and cello by Mozart, a serenade
for flute, violin and viola by Beethoven, a
saxophone quartet by Russell Howland and a
string quartet by Anton Dvorak.
The Sheldon Film Theater this weekend will
screen the fifth and sixth segments of Lord
Kenneth Clark's most recent film series,
"Romantic and Classic Art." This week's
offerings deal with the work of Jean-Auguste
Dominique Ingres, often referred to as the
archtypical Classicist.
Lord Clark examines this characterization and
suggests that it is perhaps somewhat misleading.
To the modern mind, Clark says, there may be
something more oriental than classical in Ingres'
flowing, sleek lines arid his unshaded planes of
color. Perhaps, Clark indicates, the truth is that
Ingres escaped completely from orthodox classi
cism by making direct studies of Greek vases,
rather than by copying their established
interpreters.
The films will be shown at 1:30 p.n. Saturday
and at 3 p m. Sunday. They are free and open to
trie public. . J
