Amateurs, pros Learn tools of trade There's another new business in Lincoln. Its proprietors say it's a whole new thing for these parts: a prinfmakers atelier (workshop). Confessed printmaking fanatics Barbara Kendrick and Rosemary Kuehn have set up shop tb spread their enthusiasm for tfie art!by providing access to the tools; of the trade to amateucand professional alike. For those who have yet to reach even the amateur stage, there will be classes starting in January, Kendricks said. Special classes for children will also be given. "It will be an unusual opportunity for children to work with professional artists," Kendricks said. Presently the printmakers are working with a World War II era press. Kendrick and Kuehn said the small, aged press is sufficient. They are working with the intaglio process, in which the design is etched into the surface of a piece of asphalt-coated copper. The design is scraped in the asphalt and dipped in acid. A new press, which will arrive in about two months, will enable them to expand to different methods of the arts, including relief, woodcut, silk-screen, photo-silk-screen and lithogrpahy, Kendrick said. Meanwhile, "to pay the rent," Kuehn said, a frame shop and gallery have been set up. A show entitled "Lincoln Printmakers" is now on display at the gallery. The works are for sale on a consignment basis. The Printmaker Gallery is located at 134 N. 14 St., above The Zoo Bar. f doly nebfoskon Editor-in-chief: Jane Owens. News Editor: Wes Albers.
