Candidates give views on issues of women 1 "You don't want me to be perfect," said Wally Barnett, 26th legislative district. "There was one guy like that and they crucified him." Barnett and tour otner canuiaaies runumy iui legislative offices in Lincoln spoke at Unitarian Church last night for the Lincoln Chapter of the National Organization of Women (NOW) and the Lincoln Women's Political Caucus. The meeting was held to get the candidate s views on women's issues, including the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), rape laws, credit, marriage and divorce laws and child support: Marge Schlitt, 28th district, felt that the ERA , repeal in Nebraska was the main cause of concern. "There is only one answer," said Schlitt. "We need more women in the legislature not just voting and not. just writing to their senator, but actually making laws." Another concern of Schlitt's is the property settlement 'aw in Nebraska which does not allow a woman alimony after she remarries. "If you consider that it is a 50-50 relationship, then the property is still half of the woman's." "There is no doubt in my mind that there is discrimination in the way laws are set up," said Roland Luedtke, 28th district. "Basically, I agree with Marge," Jim Kubert, 26th district. "We need a lot more women in the; legislature. And if Wally (his opponent) would step down, more women could get in. I might even step down too." Barnett claims that the repeal of the ERA can about because of the lack of leadership. "No one thought we were in any position to lose that until we lost it." Harold Simpson, who is running unopposed for the 46th district said, "Someone asked me how my campaign is going and I told them it was on an uphill swing. Since I don't have a candidate, I guess that was safe. " , . Don't Throw Away Your Money! Regular maintenance of your tape deck or irecord changer can prevent costly repairs!
