Marie's Oasis is one of a vanishing breed

The primary attraction of Marie's Oasis, as
with any bar of the genre, is the properly
relaxing atmosphere. A draw consumed in
Marie's has roughly the same effect as
attending a Merle Haggard Concert, or
driving on country back roads accompanied
by a six-pack in a '55 Chevy saloon.

"Convocation yesterday was as usual a decided
success. After the opening song of America, Dr. Maxey
spoke on the "Effects of the European War on the
United States." He said that in the last one hundred
years the commerce of the United States with the rest of
the world has increased about 2,000 per cent,
consequently the war can not help but effect the United
States commercially.

Relay honors
anniversary
Twelve Marine Officer
Candidates will conduct a
62-miie relay run from
Lincoln to Omaha on Oct.
19 to commemorate the
19th anniversary of the
Marine Corps (Nov. 10),
Capt. David P. Evans,
Marine Office Instructor
of the Naval Reserve
Officer Training Corps
(NROTC), said Thursday.
Evans, who will partici
pate in and supervise the
run, said it will begin at 6
a.m. at the Military and
Navel Science Bldg. on
the UNL campus and will
end at about 5 p.m. at the
Union Pacific Building in
downtown Omaha.
The relay will be con
ducted in five-mile seg
ments, with all the partici
pants running the first
and last mile together.
Marine Officer Candi
dates from two officer
training programs,
NROTC, Marine Option
and the Platoon Leader
Candidate (PLC) program
will run. Evans said the
relay will give candidates
from the two programs a
chance to share their
experiences, as well as
serve as a conditioning
exercise for them.
Tim Evensen, one of the
runners, said motivation
is the key word for stu
dents in the Marine Can
didate program and espe
cially for those participat
ing in the run. -
Representing the Ma
rine Candidate Program,
Evans said he challenges
the Air Force or Army
ROTC programs to a relay
run "of any distance on
any day."
Participating in the run
are Evensen, Evans, Peter
Keenan, Keith Wother
spoon, Brian King, James
Bailey, Robert Gose, Gun
ther Feiste, James Rado
sevich, Frank Esposito,
Rex Nolan and Michael
Regan.
The final showings of
"The UFO's" will be at
Mueller Planetarium Sa
turday at 2:45 p.m. and
Sunday at 2:30 and 3:45
p.m.
The Lincoln Computing
Facility will' offer a one
week mini-course begin
ning Monday. Entitled
"interactive Graphics I",
the course will meet from
3:30 to 5 p.m. every day
next week in Nebraska
