Eugene O'Neill's "Ah Wilderness" will be present
ed at the Lincoln Community Playhouse Friday through
Sunday at 8 p.m. each evenmg.
University Theatre will present "The Waltz of the
Toreadors" Friday and Saturday, as well as Oct. 21-26
at 8 p.m. at Howell Theatre.
"Orpheus", by Jean Couteau, will be screened
Friday and Saturday at 3, 7, and 9 p.m. at the Sheldon
Art Gallery. ,
Hawkwindin concert

Well, space kids, Saturday night is the night.
Hawkwind, continuing on their intergalactic missions
throughout the country, will converge upon Pershing
Auditorium. With this sort of astral identity, they will
present us with their music of vision and space, leading
us perhaps to the last frontier. For those of you hung up
on the genre, space-rock is one of the few, if not the
only, surviving form of acid-rock.
Also appearing will be Rush. Tickets are $4, and $5
on the day of the show. The concert will begin at 8 p.m.
And for those of you who need something to think
about until then, try this on:

Cover best part of album
Suzi Quatro is a trim young woman who has been
parlayed into being the current queen of British rock by
producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. Adopting
butch stance, wearing a wardrobe of black leather or
silver lame' and singing at the top of her lungs, sne nas
managed to attract a large following among European
and British teenybops who seem to thrive on the harsh
attitude she has towards them. It seems she is building
the same sort of following here in the States.
Her first album, characterized by a simple-minded
sound accompanying infantile, nonsensical lyrics, was a
moderately successful release, and her second album,
simply titled "Quatro", will probably surpass it,
decorated as it is with a gorgeous color photo of her on
both the front and back of the album jacket.
Unfortunately, her music does not live up to the
artwork this time, for this disc i3 evidence of nothing
more than simple self-indulgence on the part of Quatro
and her production staff.

Gone is the vitality, the bite that was In abundance on
the first album. Some one has evidently told her she
needs to lay back a little so as not to scare the kiddies,
and she has taken this advice to heart with a
vengeance. Only on the first two cuts on the first side of
the album does she let herself go, and even on those
two tracks, "Devis Gate Drive" and "Keep A
Knockin', she is seemingly performing In a parody of
herself, her vicious voice dulled by over-engineering.
All of this is a shame, for Quatro has some real
puieoiisji, if uniy Siiw wouiu chuck her producers and ei
her voice mature. Until she does, she will remain
nought but a striking photograph on an album cover.
In marked contrast to Quatro, Tracy Nelson continues
to mature, turning out a consistently first-rate body of
music. Her latest release, "Tracy Nelson", is a fine,
balanced disc that. shows Nelson's singular voice to
good advantage, It is hard to pick favorites on this
album, but her chunky, almost band-like version of
"Hold an Old Friend's Hand" must certainly rate as
the best treatment this song has ever gotten. This is her
best work since "Living With The Animals", and is my
nomination for best female recording of the year.
