CSL ?xes proposal
Fine custom framing at a reasonable price.
The Council on Student Life (CSL) Thursday
night defeated a recommendation that would have
asked the Athletic Dept. to treat UNL faculty and
students equally when confiscating football tickets
because of misuse.
The recommendation, part of the report of the
ad hoc CSL fees and fines subcommittee, would
have required that all university faculty, staff and
students entering Memorial Stadium for football
games have their identification checked, and that
the penalty of confiscation apply to all.
Several CSL members said faculty are not
checked for proper identification, and many sell
their tickets. They said students are more likely to
be checked.
Technically, . both faculty and students are
subject to ticket confiscation by the Athletic Dept.
when tickets are transferred by the owner. But the
ad hoc fees and fines committee found that there
"is little effort to apprehend staff violators."
The recommendation, which failed by 12 to 1
vote, was opposed by CSL member Chip Lowe,
who said the proposal was an attempt "to treat all
of the university population the same."
The proposal to drop the recommendation was
made by Terry Klopfenstein, who said "I don't
think Chancellor Zumberge should be treated the
same as a new freshman."
Faculty members pay $22.50 for football tickets,
while students pay $17.50.
There was consensus among CSL members that
the Athletic Dept. has the right to impose
restrictions on the use of faculty and student
tickets because of their reduced price.
In other action on the fees and fines report, CSL
approved a recommendation that the UNL
Accounting Office make a permanent record of the
rationale behind its interest rates on student
loans. The office collects all student loans for
graduate and undergraduate students, but has no
explanation of why the rates are at their current
levels.
The interest rates, applicable nine months after
a student graduates, consist of a zero per cent
charge on federal ioans, a 4 per cent charge if paid
before the due date, a 6 per cent charge if the
student leaves school before the due date, and a 9
per cent charge if the loan is deUient
