. 1J y7 , r Wounded Knee, South Dakota has been forgotten by many, replaced in the headlines by the Wounded Knee trials. But the spirit of what happened at the small village on the Pine Ridge Reservation lives on, stronger than ever. Proof of that were the words of American Indian Movement (AIM) members last night at the T3l S: ML. . Wound )artmeht Lounge Kn plat 'iive&oif Roger Iron Cloud and Bobby Onco, defendants in the Wounded Knee nonieadership trials, and ' ; Vernona Killo Right, told a group of about 75 i persons that the American Indian people are striving for self-rule. ; "AIM Is not a militant organization," said Iron Cloud, "It is a religious movement to revitalize Indian culture and pride." He said his people have been fighting for 400 years against racism and attempted genocide. He repeated the religious theme several times as he spoke. ;, Iron Cloud compared the sentences of Water gate defendants when pointing out the inequities ' . that exist with the Indians. ..'"They- committed greater acts than the . Wounded Knee defendants ever did," he said. The citizens of Lincoln have been very fair to the Indian people staying at the barracks at the Lincoln Air Park, Iron Cloud said, but the defense : committee still needs help with fund raising. Help is needed at the barracks by anyone interested, he said. The Wounded Knee trials resume Monday and are open to the public, according to Ann Durham, public relations for the defense committee. presents - AMATEUR NIGHT ' vocalists-musicJans-comedians-magtcinns-fcSI-daneers- strippers Nightly winner receives $10.00 and chance for finalist night.
