l ee was destined, before his death, to become one of
filmdoms most popular stars, following in the footsteps
of other machotypes like John Wayne, uiint bastwooc
and Charles Bronson. His body was a coiled, living
weaDon vet beneath it all his acting displayed a shy,
virginal, boyish naivete. Fakery abounds in his films
but the camera tricks are much fewer man in tnose ot
his lesser compatriots.
In one unedited, continuous shot. in this turn, Lee
makes an incredible, split-second leap with his leg,!
kicks out a light fixture hanging from the ceiling and
lands smiling wiiiiout a trace of effort on his face. With
very littla blood in this film, there is something
purgmgly pure in his ballets of violence.
The martial arts imports will never make the critics
look twice, yet they drew ir, a lot of peopie and made
an incredible amount of money. If anybody ever notices
them in passing, it will be because of Bruce Lee.
Lee starred in four movies in his lifetime. This is only
one more than did James Dean, another young actor
who once, for a brief moment in time, grabbed a large
piece of glory and then passed on before we could see
