ROTC. . .
Continued from page 1 , , . ..nnT
Debbie Kempton, a Bellevue freshman in NROTO,
said women's social lives do not center around the
ROTC program. She said NROTC does not take much
time out of her school activities.
There were complaints about uniforms from two
AROTC cadets. r J ,
One AROTC cadet, who preferred) to remain
anonymous, said she did not like the appearance of the
"weird" uniforms. nl-r
Margie Dennis, a sophomore AROTC cadet,
complained that her fatigues did not fit.
The problem of ill-fitting uniforms bother NROTC,
too, Capt. W. R. Thomas, commanding officer of
NROTC, said. With more women going into the Navy it
is harder to promptly fill orders for womenfs uniforms,
he said.
Women are expected to perform the same duties as
men in ROTC programs, Yim said. Only certain
exercises have been changed for women, for instance,
women do not have to do chin-ups or sit-ups in AROTC,
he said. '
AROTC classes are the same as any other classes at
UNL, Deb Goodrich, a freshman, said.; Instructors
lecture students on such subjects as military history
and cadets are encouraged to give their obinions, she
said. I
Nine women have enrolled in AROTC this year,
making a total of 16, Yim said. AFROTC has also had
nine women enroll with 11 total according to Juister.
Thomas said in its initial year NROTC has had four
women enroll.
