featured in celebration
Fiesta!!! The very word conjures up images of gaity
and color. But many Anglo-Americans have no
memories to base those images on.
This weekend, the Mexican American Student
Association (M ASA) will offer Lincoln an opportunity to
experience a fiesta first hand. The two-day event is in
celebration of Mexican Independence Day, Sept. 16.
The festivities will begin with a dance Saturday from
7 p.m. to 1 a.m. The eight members of El Mariachi
Nuevo Guadalajara will provide traditional Mexican
music with voice, guitar, violin and brass.
. Sunday afternoon from 12 to 4 p.m. the fiesta will
continue with El Mariachi Nuevo Guadalajara
accompanying as traditional foods are offered for sale.
The celebration will end with a dance on Sunday from
7 p.m. until midnight, again with El Mariacha Nuevo
Guadalajara. .
All the events are open the public. Admission for
Saturday's dance is $3 per person and Sunday's dance
is $2.50. All events will be at the National Guard
Armory, 1776 N. 10th St.
Proceeds from the dance will go to the Simon Orta
Scholarship fund. Orta was the first Chicano to receive
the doctorate degree from the University of Nebraska.
The scholarship is awarded to the Mexican-American
student who exhibits academic promise and actively
ser ves the university Chicano community.

The Beoyram 3000 is an integrated, automatic
