Pictures and story by Steve Boerner Of recent construction projects at UNL perhaps the wall built at the western entrance of Teacher's College is least understood. it was built early last summer, said Harley Schrader, physical plant director, in response to a directive issued in 1972 by State Fire Marchall Joe Pluta. The directive listed specific fire prevention improvements to be made on campus buildings. One of 'he items pinpointed was the need or more fire exits for the Teacher's College. A fire escape is being put The wail was built, Schrader said, to integrate the fire escape to the building, provide structural sup port and make it esthetically pleasing. Total cost of the project, inclu ding materials for the fire escape, was about $20,000, he said. A totally enclosed stairwell would have been better, but funds were not availabe, Schrader added.
