After many tries with the Lincoln City Council, Council members finally agreed to relent on the zoning codes and allow a law firm to build their offices in the old fraternity building. Prof to seek German talent Roger Welsch, NU assistant professor of English, is going to Germany for three weeks starting Aug. 26 as the guest of the Federal German Republic and as a representative of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Welsch, who teaches folklore at NU, is one of eight Americans who have been assigned the task of seeking "folk-talent" representative of Germany for participation in next year's "Folk Festival on the Mall" in Washington. The folk festival annually brings representatives of cultures from throughout the world to the nation's capital for demon strations of singing, dancing, and various crafts and arts. Welsch said that next year's festival to be held in July, will last three weeks. An important part of the festival, Welsch . said, is the inclusion of what is termed a cognate community . meaning a community drawn from within the United States which has its roots in an overseas culture such as that of Germany, Japan, or Ireland. After his return from Germany, Welsch will be involved in the formation of a representative cognate community and is bopeful that he will be able to draw upon people in the Northern plains including Neb raska, for participation in the festival. 'Jeanne Wolf premieres "Jeanne Wolf with..." an unusual talk show, premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the Nebraska ETV Network with Jackie Gleason. The program repeats Saturday, August 10, at 8:30 p.m. "Jeanne Wolf with Jackie G!eason"jieads off the series;" Gleason, one of America's leading comedians, discusses a variety of personal subjects, , and comments on everything from Marlon Brando aud sex in films to President Nixon and Watergate. In this interview, Jeanne Wolf provides an intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait of the comedian. The interview program " Jeanne Wolf with..." began informally about a year and a Schwciger award bestowed A Hooper youth, Robert B. Havekost, 19, has received the Earle W. Schweiger Memorial Scholarship of $250. Havekost, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wood row Havekost, is a computer science major in the College of Engineering and Technology at the University of Nebraska. Scholarship fund set up A scholarship fund in honor of the late Dr. Edward B. Schmidt, who taught public finance at the University of Nebraska for 35 years, has been established at the Uni versity Foundation. The donor is hh widow, who now lives in Mesa, ARiz. Income from the endowed fund will support scholarships in the College of Business Administration on the Lincoln Campus. The speakers who have contracted to appear at UN-L during the fail and winter terms include: Dick Gregory, black comedian, who will appear on Oct. 6. On Oct. 24, David Haberstam, author bf The- Best and The Brightest, a book on the John F. Kennedy staff, will be speaking on issues current in October," be it impeachment or election campaigns. Haberstam is also the author of several books on Vietnam and is the author of The Unfinished Odyssey of Robert Kennedy. A multi-media presentation entitled "In Seach of Dracula" will be presented by Professor Raymond McNally on Jan. 29. McNally will also present a lecture on "The Tactics of Terror" on Jan. 30. In the first of several programs focusing on the future, Tom Wolfe, author of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, will be speaking on March 5. Wolfe will be speaking on how the American social class system has paved the way for hostage taking. A lecture presentation on "Living with Crisis: Human Relations in the Year 2,000", will be given on March 13. The speakers on this topic will be political economist Eliot Jane way and author and social historian Elizabeth Janeway. Eliot Janeway is the author of the economy publication, "Janeway's Reyiew.".Elizabeth Janeway is the author of the book, Man's World, Woman's Piace.
