The main speaker for the all-day conference will be Dr. Robert Ristau, chairman of the Department of Business Educa tion at Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilantl, Mich. Youll certainly return; ce held liinviron isiies By Peter Mason Environmental problems ranging from overpopulation to h ' dentation of mineral re sources have been topics of discussion in a workshop on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. The Lincoln Environmental Education Workshop, conduct ed by Dr. Donald McCurdy of tho UN-L Department of Secondary Education, is de signed for secondary social studies and science teachers in the Lincoln area. The purpose of the workshops is to acquaint teachers with environmental problems, on local, state and national levels. Among the environmental problems relating to the state of Nebraska and the Lincoln area are urban problems such as waste disposal and waste water treatment, and agri culturally related problems such as feedlot pollution, water and soil conservation, irrigation and food production. According to Dr. McCurdy the four-week workshop has been successful in interesting secondary school students in environmental problems. Several high schools in the Lincoln area now offer environ mental studies as part of their curriculum. The workshop has also been instrumental in the organiza tion of a "mini-grant" program sponsored by the Lincoln South Optimist Club. In this program high school classes, groups or clubs with environmental inter ests can propose projects. If the project is accepted, a $1,000 grant is offered.
