Support for Evenseri
refused by senate
A bill and a resolution proposing moral and monetary support
for ASUN Sen. Evensen's candidacy for regent failed Wednesday
night at the ASUN Senate meeting.
Monetarily supporting Evenson could jeopardize ASUN's
nonprofit status according to ASUN President Ron Clingenpeel.
Evensen is running for regent in the Sixth District.
In an effort to end speculation that he might resign,
Clingenpeel assured the senate that he had not applied for any job
with Drake University. The Daily Nebraskan had reported that
Clingenpeel was considering applying for a position as
coordinator of volunteer services at the Des Moines University.
Todd McDaniels, coordinator of ASUN Liaison programs
reported to the senate that lack of coordination with living units
and lack of understanding by students have hindered the program
in the past.
. He hopes to improve the effectiveness of the liaison program
next year via a handbook, a summer mailing sheet to incoming
freshman, and summer student orientation program.
A bill allocating money for the debt of the now defunct ASUN
Record Store was unanimously passed. The record store debt is
still in excess of $3,400.
Having withdrawn from tne National Students Assoc. (NSA),
the senate voted to join the National Institute of Student
Government (NISG).
Lack of participation from other schools within NSA was cited
as the reason for deciding to join NISG, Clingenpeel said
A $50 membership fee was also approved by the senate for the
NISG.
Two resolutions by ASUN Sen. Jim Macomber proposing the
formation of investigating committees on availability of
University owned apartments to married students and the
possible merger of the four Nebraska state colleges with the
University system were unanimously passed
