,. -jj 4 .-sa xtf' "'iiSi-'V- By Pat Moynshan While politicians across the country are fighting for political survival, the University of Nebraska Young Republicans (YR) is attempting to stage a comeback. New officers were elected March 21 as part of this revival of the campus organization. Conflicts among last year's YR chapter leaders had resulted in a hearing before the YR State Executive Committee in February, and a decision that the UNL chapter's elections -vouW be - supervised by four representatives from the committee. Former YR Treasurer Richard Veed had charged that the UNL chapter was guilty of misconduct and had "fallen apart,'' Newly elected YR President Michael Moore said he was ;s try confident such a conflict would not recur. "There may be tensions below the surface," he said, "but I'm not aware of any." , Moore, a junior in agricultural economics, said the main goal of the new officers is to overcome the apathy prevalent on campus today. ' . . While everyone is well aware of national politics, they are ignorant of local and regional news, he said. Attention must be drawn to the Legislature which affects the students' news more than most realize. To- increase political awareness of local and state candidates, the YR plans to bring speakers to campus, Moore said. . comeback "Since this is an election year, it shouldn't be too hard to find someone willing to speak," he said. r w -r ta 'Tr'k'n''',iit-jj Jiyfl'i4 r"ny-"- daily ftsbfasken - Editor-in-Chief: Mary Voboril.
