Fees panel OUIiOILO money requests ByWesAibers A mailing campaign telling UNL organizations how to get a slice of the student fees pie will begin next week, according to Fees Allocation Board officials, Board chairman David Morrison said the campaign will outline procedures organizations should follow to get fees. Hearings to deterrning fees distribution will be March 11 -April '22, he said. Organizations must submit a written application to be considerd. The fees are collected from students and used to support campus organizations. Each full-time student pays fees of $51.50 each semester. Established by the Board of Regents last year, the Fees Allocations Board will handle distribution of most of the fees. It is composed of students, faculty and administrators. , The board partially replaces a system under which fees have been allocated by several groups, including the Union Program Council, ASUN Senate, the Student Activities Office and the Office of Student Affairs. "With this new board and some publicity we expect to receive applications from many groups that never before realized they could apply' Morrison said. According to Dean of Administration Ely Meyerson, onSy recognized student organizations may apply for the funds. Those groups approved by ASUN or the Office of Student Activities will be considered recognized, he said. Morrison said funding requests ate expected to exceed the money available, because of both decreasing enrollment and increasing interest by groups in getting fees. The fees will be distributed to those groups best justifying their needs at the hearings, he said, Morrison said student fees are earmarked by the regents for distribution in three categories: to student organizations such as ASUN, to groups "directly managed and implemented by UNL faculty or staff," and for long-term commitments such as operating the Nebraska Union. , 0 jnk.
