Crimesolving task of police unit Cross : f w i 4' A" By Lynn Silhasek The Lincoln Police Dept.'s Major Crimes Unit hasn't made the world completely free from crime, but it has countered the increased number of Lincoln burglaries reported, with an increase in arrests made, according to unit director Lt. Robert LaPage. The federally funded unit was established last September to combat recent increases in burglaries, robberies and drug violations. The undercover work needed to solve such crimes required the special unit, LaPage said. The unit's seven-man force doubled the percentage of burglaries solved over a 10-month period in 1973, according to police statistical averages. The average percentage of reported burglaries solved between February and April was 21.9 per cent, compared with 43 per cent between September, when the unit was established, and November.
