Thn free program starts at 8 p.m. Thursday in Kimball Recital Hall. The first piece will bo "The Exorcism" by Walter Ross. Originally written to fit a poem, it was first composed with an accompanying dance, said Jack Snider, professor of music, who will conduct the brass ensemble. "The piece has lots of rhythmical, moody effects," Snider said. "The Exorcism" sets peicussion against the brass in five? movements. The rhythm is prcvidecby tympani, vibes, xylophone, bells, temple blocks and mancas. "Concerto Antifonale," written in 1966 by Vaclav Nelhybel, divides the ensemble into three sections: a three-piece solo and two choirs. Snider described the four-movement woi k as rhythmic, but with much melody and harmony. Nelhybel uses adjacent instruments to create strong dissonance. The holiday emphasis cpens the second half of the program, in "Suite of Carols," arranged by Leroy Anderson. The concert ends with a medley of "Deck the Halls" and "Here We Go A-Cuoling" in a new arrangement by Jerry Fielding. The brass ensemble consists of 6 trumpets. 2 euphoria, 5 horns,. 2 tuba, 4 trombones ind,, 3 percussionists. Snider added that anyone who is not in an ensemble and would like to play next semester should sec him or Albert Rometo before semester break.
