The Lincoln Star reported Tuesday that the name of Anne
Campbell, NU rlnector of public affairs, has been submitted to
the White House by two national associations as a possible
successor to Sidney P. Marland, former assistant secretary of
Health, Education and Welfare.
Washington Monitor, a publication of the National School
Public Relations Assoc., said in its Monday edition that both
the American Assoc. of School Administrators (AASA) and
the National Assoc. of Elementary School Principals had
surjcjested her name.
Earlier, it was reported lh.it the Nebiaska congressional
delegation had offered Campbell's name foi consideration for
the job, the highest runkiiK) position in federal education
policy in the counti y.
Marland, who once served as federal commissionei of
education, resigned earlier this year as assistant HEW secretary
for education.
AASA, the nation's largest organization of school
administrators, submitted Campbell's name and four others as
possible choices, the Washington Monitor said.
The elementary principals' association suggested
Campbell's and one other name.
The weekly publication said it understood the Nixon
administration is "seriously considering naming a woman to
the post."
It said it understands that
until after the first of the year.
