A UiIL student received a Lincoln Heel Cross award yesterday for saving a young
boy's life. Tom Robison, a senior in Teacher College, was recognised for his efforts
in administering artificial respiration to Calvin Hudson this summer at Holmes Lake.
Robison, assisted by another man, rescued Calvin from the water, dragged him onto
a dock and began giving him artificial respiration. The two worked more than 30
minutes to revive the boy. Shown with him m the picture is his fiance and sister of
the young boy, Frankie Hudson.

Craig Eckhardt, associate
professor of chemistry, will
have his findings summarised
in an upcoming ed;lion of the
Encyclopedia of Science and
Excitons are localized
electronic excitations activated
by the introduction of certain
tight wavelengths. Untii several
years ago, they were thought
to be only a solid state
occurrence. In the mid' 60s,
scientists discovered they a 'so
were observable in atomic
To observe the excitons,
Eckhardt used an instrument
called a specular reflection
spectrometer, which he
designed and constructed
himself. Such a spectrometer is
available; only at UNL.
Eckhardts's data also has
