A controversy which began
in September concerning the
nomination of student
members to the N U
Publications Committee was
settled at Thursday's Council
on Student Life (CSL)
meeting.
The council adopted a
"single slate" proposal which
states that the ASUN Senate
will nominate only one name
for each vacant student
position on the Publications
Committee.
CSL previously had
requested the Senate
recommend more students for
the committee than there were
positions open, allowing the
council to make the final
selection.
The committee is the
publisher of the Daily
Nebraskan.
Last fall, UNL Chancellor
James Zumberye recommended
that the Senate submit a list of
10 students to CSL. The
council then would select five
of those students to fill vacant
positions on the Publicaiions
Commit lee.
Under the new proposal,
written by an ASUN ad hoc
committee, ASUN will have to
submit only live names if all
five student positions are
vacant.
If a nomination is not
approved by the council, it can
send thai name back to the
Senate. The Senate then will
"immediately" forward a new
nomination to CSL. tin;
proposal state's.
All Senate nominations sent
to the council will include tin;
nominees' credentials and the
reasons for each nomination,
accoiding to tin; proposal.
