The film included interviews with Ellsberg and Russo, who first exposed the documents; street interviews with the public and photographs of North Vietnamese soldiers. The Pentagon Papers is a history of U.S. involvement and decision-making in Vietnam. When asked about publication of the papers, one man interviewed in the film said he though the documents should be censored because he believed they contained military strategies. Ellsberg said the National Liberation Front (NLF) had much support from the Vietnamese because NLF members respected villagers, paid for food and clothing and did not destroy crops and fields. However, Ellsberg said, the NLF and Vietnamese could have been fed,100 times over if deliberate defoliation of the land by U.S. aircraft had not occurred. "Defoliation was designed to wreck the countryside and drive people into the city, thus leaving the guerrilla fighters empty-handed-this is genocide," Ellsberg said. The main reason for the continuation of the war was economical, according to a housewife interviewed in the film. "The U.S. needs more control, more land, more power. It reminds me of the Indian situation, and I believe this is the history and future of the country. Even if we win in Vietnam, as we did in the Indian wars, there will come'-a time when we'll lose," she said. Astronaut Mitchell to speak "Exploring Inner Space" will be the topic of former astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell's speech, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Nebraska Union. An appearance by Mitchell scheduled earlier this month was cancelled, because of the astronaut's illness. Mitchell, who conducted an ESP experiment on the Apollo 14 moon mission and was the sixth man to walk on the moon, reportedly will take his audience on a mental space flight to convey inspace experience. Mitchell's speech and 7:30 rep session in Sandoz Hall are part of the Human Potentials Series, sponsored by the Nebraska Union Talks & Topics Commitee.
