Union Board discusses bookstore By Mark Hoffman A request for University Bookstore office space, a University Program Council proposal, and eligibility requirements for use of Nebraska Union space were discussed at the Union Board meeting Wednesday. Board members referred University Bookstore Manager John Stafford's office space request to a committee for further study. Stafford requested Union Rooms 340, 341 and 3"2 on a permanent basis to accommodate relocation of bookstore offices now in the Union basement. The bookstore's financial situation prompted the idea of relocating the offices, he said. Preliminary reports indicate the bookstore will have about a $25,000 deficit for this year, yet the bookstore had to turn customers away earlier this ye'ir, he said. Because of insufficient space, the bookstore rented a conference room in the Union basement at the beginning of the autumn semester for freshman textbooks. The conference room did not provide adequate space at peak periods, and the store ended up turning some customers away, he said. By relocating the offices, bookstore area, could be increased from present 4,000 sq. ft. to 6,000 sq. ft. Rooms 340 and 342 are meeting rooms, with Rm. 340 having heavy usage, according to staff board member and Nebraska Union Director Al Bennett. In ot" dr business, the board discussed the University Program Council proposed by UNL students David Howlett and Cheryl Long. The proposal calls for organization of committees dealing with such areas as speakers, music and film into a See Union, Page 14 In SUNDAY X GRATEF .
