Cleanup campaign to collect staff trash By Vince Boucher Test papers, unused books and obsolete UNL supplies will be among the articles collected Oct. 10-11 during a University cleanup effort Harley A. Schrader, UNL physical plant director, is the d'ive organizer. The target is UNL staff and faculty offices where unused and unwanted articles and trash' have accumulated since the last cleanup two years ago. The project has two objectives, Schrader said. The frist is to clear offices of debris so the custodial staff can clean more efficiently, he said. Schrader said that custodians have about eight minutes to clean one office. If boxes must be moved and swept around, or if areas such as closets are blocked, then cleaning takes longer. When the offices aren't cleaned properly, or regularly, then the maintenance crew "catches all the complaints," according to Schrader. The second purpose is to return unused articles such as business machines and supplies to University Stores, he said. This surplus equipment then can be redistributed to offices throughout the NU system, Schrader said. If no use if found within the University, then the supplies are redistributed through state offices or sold at public auction as a last resort, he said. Subsidiary benefits are the repair of broken articles, the removal of potential fire hazards and the phychological benefits of a clean work space, he said. "If people go into a clean room they are apt to keep it clean," he said. Schrader termed the first drive a "tremendous success." He said that the cleanups will be as often as needed. Faculty and staff are asked to place trash or unused accumulated supplies or material outside their doors Oct. 10-11. Boxes will be provided to anyone who needs them to collect debris. "Everybody has to be in on it to make it successful,' Schrader said. Slave sale at auction The NU Rodeo Association is having a slave auction Thursday 'nitjht at the Nebraska Livestock Auction Sale Barn horse sale on West 0 St. About 15 new members of the club will bo auctioned off to do various jobs.
