Offensive guard Stan Hegener is more
than a football player. The 6 ft.-4 in., 236
lb. junior sports an accumulative grade
point average exceeding 3.5.
Majoring in construction management,
Hegener hopes to "land a job with a
major construction firm upon graduation.
"Since we (the football players)
practice every afternoon from 2 to 6
p.m., I have to take the bulk of my
classes in the morning. The only other
available time is the evening, which I try
to avoid if possible," he said.
"Staying ahead of a class is important.
If I can manage to do that, my study time
prior to tests is decreased greatly,"
Hegener said.
Carrying 16 hours, he often is forced
to study late at night. "I've found that
the quietest period of the day is actually
from 10:30 p.m. on," he said.
However, Hegener rarely forces
himself to stay awake after he's tired. "I
simply go to bed and try not to worry
about what I didn't do. ..there will just
