However, the University of Wisconsin football team hasn't exactly lived up to its mascot's reputation. Wisconsin enters today's game with an 0 2 record. They have lost to Purdue (14 13) and to the University of Colorado (28-25). In 1972, they were ninth in the Big 10 with a 2 6 record and were 4 7 overall. Offensively, the Badgers return 18 lettermen, 10 of them 1972 starters. Senior center Mike Webster leads an experienced offensive Badger line. Wisconsin Head Football Coach John Jardine calls Webster "a bona fide All American candidate." Wisconsin's offense will be guided by junior quarter back Gregg Bohlig. Starting running backs will be sophomores Bill Matek (tailback) and Ken Starch (fullback). Starch leads all Wisconsin rushers with 181 yards. Bohlig's receivers will be juniors Rodney Rhodes (split end) and Jeff Mack (flanker). Rhodes leads the Badger receiving corps with 5 receptions for 97 yards. After two games, the Badger offense has r un 158 plays for 789 yards. Defensively, Wisconsin returns 15 lettermen, seven of them starters in 1972. Last year, Wisconsin opponents totaled 3,871 offensive yards and scored 229 points against the Badger defense. Juniors Mike Jenkins (middle guard) and Mark Zakula (linebacker) lead the defense. iscomsDn To win today's game, Wisconsin must stop the nation's second ranked collegiate football team, Nebraska. The Huskers are 2-0, with victories over UCLA (40-13) and North Carolina State (31-14). Nebraska and Wisconsin have met three times; in 1901 Wisconsin won 18 0 but Nebraska won in 1965 (37 0) and in 1966 (31-3). Offensively, sophomore l-Back Tony Davis leads all Husker rushers with 253 yards in 46 attempts. He has scored 3 touchdowns. Senior l-Back Dave Goeller is next with 110 yards in 28 carriers. Junior wingback Ritch Bahe has 91 yards in 13 carriers and senior fullback Maury Damkroger has 78 yards in 18 attempts.
