Today staff writer Lori Demo writes about Sue Bailey and her activity with the city's social programs. Thursday and Friday, Demo will take a look at Max Denney and John Robinson. By Lori Demo I have gotten involved with the two things I talked about most in my campaign, trans portation and human services, Sue Bailey, Lincoln City Council member, said. Bailey won her seat on the council in last May's city elections. Bailey has begun a personal project concerning social services that has interested the other council members. "In the city, certain social services are delivered but there is no recognition of them in the city government," she said. "There are departments providing physical planning, but none for social agencies. "When the budget came up there was no committee to say money was needed to continue City Councilwoman Sue Bailey these services. The council had to go out on its own and try to estimate how much money would tx; needed." Bailey convinced the council to agree to a one-year social planning project to analyze what kind of services exist and to make recommendations. The council designated money from federal revenue sharing funds to be put into a contigencey fund for this project. "We will fund agencies this year. "This is very challenging because there are no cities the size of Lincoln with a social planning project for us to follow." Last spring. Bailey opposed the Northeast Radial highway because she thought it was "too old-fashioned." Rather, she said, she is interested in finding a mass transportation system-probably buses-to ease the city's transportation problems. "I asked the council and it agreed to subsidize the Lincoln Transportation System using some revenue sharing money to stimulate an innovative bus ridership program," she said. Dailey said she is looking for ways to encourage the typical family to give up automobiles and use buses. Bailey also serves on the Lincoln Center Development Association. This is a group of downtown businesspersons organized to better downtown Lincoln. She also is a member of the Downtown Advisory Committee, a new group formed to create plans to redevelop downtown Lincoln. amm (O 472-2200 WALK-IN WEST DOOR HEALTH CENTER TIRE HEADQUARTERS SPECIAL !'
