Breckenridge. "Any time you have construction work going on around the campus, there is a small danger of a student being hurt. I'm not distressed about it-there is danger in anything you do," Breckenridge said. The passageway currently has a "Danger-enter at your own risk" sign posted. The sign was placed there by the George Cook Construction Co. because of the danger of falling materials which could injure persons using the walkway, according to Bill Wood, construction foreman. Wood also informed the library not to reopen the north doors, but to continue to use the south entrance. The south entrance is now closed. Breckenridge said the north doors were opened for financial reasons. "If we could find several thousand dollars more for hiring a checker, we would probably do it. Right now we don't have the money to be able to afford having the north entrance closed," Breckenridge said. Breckenridge said that library personnel were not trying to get anyone hurt, but he said since the construction company put up the sign, it was their responsibility. Eugene M. Johnson, associate director of libraries for public services, said last week the north doors also allow many students to go directly into the library auditorium instead of going through the check stations. Johnson said that aside from the library uses, the university considers the east-west passageway important to the campus. -IFSM "1 ' T (please print) 'A," - 'S i V Attofes ; "f , : m? stxte ; ?tp Pleat note: This is a one-time-only offer. Two of the three regents, interviewed Sunday afternoon agreed it was within the dormitories' power to suspend the visitation hours, but they said they didn't think the protest would have much effect on the present policy. Kermit Hansen, most vocal of the regents on the subject, said that it was the student's perogative whether or not to use the visitation hours that have been approved. He explained that he had voted for the recent extension of Saturday visitation hours and that he trusted students to decide how much visitation they (students) could handle. However, if students would present a proposal to allow 24-hour visitation, Hansen said he would be completely against it. "As long as I am on the Board of Regents I will absolutely oppose such a proposal," Hansen said. Regent Robert Raun said he would be "very surprised" if there was any reaction from parents one way or another on the visitation boycott. Raun said the students' protest of the visitation policy had not caused him to change his thinking on the subject. Regent Kermit Wagner said he was unaware of the visitation hours boycott and that he would not comment until he knew some details of the situation.
