Z No Peru approval An offer of aid to Peru State College from University President D.B. Varner has not yet been accepted according to Cecil R. "Pete" Boughn, Varner's administrative assistant. The offer was last June. It came in response to enrollment decreases- at Peru State during the past few years and to Gov. J. J. Exon's 1973-74 budget recommendations for the college. Peru area citizens had been concerned that the school might be closed. Exon had told them that he would not urge that the college be closed, but added that it would have to attract more students before he would recommend increased state funding for the institution. Varner had volunteered assistance from NU in any way that would be helpful-. Although the University cannot give the college monetary support, Varner suggested that UNL School of Journalism might design a promotion program to help attract new students to the college. School of Journalism Director R. Neale Copple said, if Peru State would pay its expenses, a senior advertising class could undertake the project. Varner also said he would make available graduate students to teach courses part-time at Peru State. J ATJii x 118 NORTH 14TH NEW! Genuine Indian Turquoise Jewelry In Rings, Bracelets and Earrinqs.
