Minority
Affairs
still lacks
director
What does a department at
UNL do when it has lost its
head? Since Leroy Ramsey left
the position in early July, the
Minority Affairs department
hasn't had a director but Davis
Williams, search committee
chairman, has been hunting for
one.
"We were shooting for a
September 1 deadline, but
obviously we will not make
that one," Williams said. "We
have not yet established a new
deadline."
Until a new director takes
over, who is heading Minority
Affairs?
"Right now no one,"
Williams said. "The people who
were there when Ramsey was
there are carrying on the
work."
"We have advertised the
position in the Chronicle of
Education and in the Lincoln
and Omaha newspapers,"
Williams- said. The
advertisements have yielded
about 25 applicants. All of the
applicants have been screened
and categorized as either
acceptable or unacceptable, he
said.
"Now we are beginning to
screen more closely those
applicants in the acceptable
category," Williams said. "We
hope to come up with three to
five applicants and then turn
them over to Ken Bader, vice
chancellor of Student Affairs.
It is my understanding that
after we recomment them, he
will have the final decision."
Ramsey, who originally
came from Now Yotk to take
the job, returned there to
become the fiist chief of the
Bureau of Educational
Integration for the New York
State Department of
Education.
