The manager said he was unable to
comment on when and if hours would
be cut back.
Bicycles provide one means of beating the gasoline shortage.
Bike routes have been outlined below by the Lincoln Police
Department, which are designed to avoid the more
heavily-traveled streets.
Some routes lead to parks and recreation areas along shady
and relatively flat routes. Other routes are for commuters,
leading directly to the downtown business area.
No dry tanks in auto pool
The University auto pool is
experiencing delays in getting
gasoline, but no dry tanks yet,
according to Ron Wright,
assistant UNL controller.
"Fortunately, we don't have
as much travel during the
summer months as during the
academic year," he said.
Wright said staff members
and faculty have been asked to
consolidate trips whenever
possible, on a voluntary basis. otherwise," Wright said.
One source of gasoline in
the past-gas pumps operated
by the state roads
department-are closed to
University members traveling
by car on official business
across the state.
"We've been asked by the
roads department not to use
their pumps until we hear
Wright indicated the roads
department was concerned
about an adequate supply of
gas for its emergency vehicles.
"I anticipate if things get
bad around here that we'll have
to tighten our belts, set
priorities on which trips have
to go and forego some others,"
he said. ' "
