University of
Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL)
students who have applied for
financial aid during the
1973-74 academic year will be
notified of their allocations in
early July.
This includes various kinds
of financial aid such as loans,
grants, scholarships, and
work-study, according to Jack
Ritchie, acting director of
financial aids and scholarships.
Applications are available
for the new federal Basic
Opportunity Grants (BOG)
which are designed to assist
eligible students who want to
begin their education beyond
high school.
Ritchie said students could
get the form from the
Scholarship and Financial Aids
office in Rm. 112
Administration.
The BOG program is
designed to provide
post-secondary educational
opportunities to those who
otherwise would not be able to
continue their education due
to financial need.
Under the program, an
eligible student could receive a
maximum of $1400 or one-half
the cost of attending a
post-secondary institution
whichever is less. The amount
which parents could provide
would be subtracted from the
above figure.
Application forms for BOG
are designed to determine the
amount which parents can
contribute. Completed forms
should be mailed to the address
indicated on the application.
After evaluation, the student
will receive a voucher which
will show the amount of
money which the parents
should provide. The voucher
should be taken to the
institution of the student's
choice where it will be
processed to determine the
final amount of the BOG grant.
Ritchie said that all
beginning freshmen are
encouraged to make
application for the grants.
There is no fee for making an
application.
All incoming freshmen at
the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln will receive
the BOG grant applications
automatically.
