4 f PACE contributions drop Tentative figures on PACE scholarship funds collected for the current semester show about a 71 per cent decrease from contributions made second semester last year, according to Financial Aids Advisor Ron Fritz. PACE, the Program for Active Commitment to Education, was organized by ASUN and approved by the Board of Regents in the summer of 1971. It is a voluntary, student-supported scholarship fund for low-income students. About $5,500 was contributed to PACE this semester through an optional $3.50 assessment on tuition statements, Fritz said. A year ago, the figure was $20,818, he said. Students contributed $28,179 in the fall of 1971 and $7,500 one year later, Fritz later. The policy for collecting PACE contributions was changed last semester as ordered by the Board of Regents. Previously, the $3.50 PACE fee was automatically included in the amount appearing on students' tuition statements. Anyone not wanting to contribute to the fund had to check a box marked "no" and subtract $3.50. Under the current policy, students contributing to the scholarship fund must check a box marked "yes" and add the $3.50 charge. The amount of publicity on this year's PACE program has been about the same as last year, Fritz said.
