' II WSEKBW FOILMS VIOLENCE Weekend Films presents the two landmark films of violence in the American cinema. Bonnie & Clyde This film was the winner of two academy awards arid stars Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway as a couple that lives for excitement. The film is very accurate an its representation of time, place, and characters as each member of the qanq is brought to life on the st.een. Michael J. Pollard is especially effective as the comically cool pang mechanic. This film has been widely criticized and lauded for the slow motion sequence of the machine gun death of the two anti heroes. The Wild Bunch This film marked a new direction for the American western as the emphasis was placed on the violence and not the mythology of the American West. Sam Peckinpah directs one of his best films with intelligence and compassion while depicting the horror of violent massacre. The stars include William Holden and Robert Ryan giving exceptional performances as ruthless men whose outlaw violence would have been considered heroic in the early West, but is now considered as some disease to be eliminated.
